BBQ Quiche!

Saturday, 2 October 2010 20:46 by nico and marie
A few weeks ago we tasted a really tasty barbecue quiche from the famous Tartes de Françoise, made out of bell peppers, bacon, mushrooms and of course barbecue sauce. We instantly thought “let’s try to make our own !”, and it was pretty damn successful ! Ingredients For 4 to 6 people: 200g of sliced bacon, or “lardons” like we call them here. 1/2 green bell pepper 1/2 red bell pepper 1 onion 6 eggs approx. 30cl of milk (I admit we didn’t measure and we checked the aspect of the omelet instead) pie crust pastry (make your own or buy it in the supermarket) barbecue sauce  The Hunt’s would have been perfect, but we no longer had this sauce. So we used a little bit of Sweet Baby Ray’s, some HP and a bit of Delhaize ! Procedures Brown the bacon in a pan (with some barbecue sauce if you want to). Drain the fat and reserve it. Cut the onion and the bell peppers into small pieces. Slice the mushrooms. Fit the crust into a pie pan. Arrange the vegetables in the crust. Put some big drops of barbecue sauce on the vegetables. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Make an omelet by whisking the eggs and milk together. Add salt & pepper, and pour it on the vegetables. Bake for 10 minutes at 200°C. Turn the oven down to 150°C and cook 25 minutes more. Serve lukewarm, not hot, and keep leftovers in the refrigerator.

HP Steak Sauce

Tuesday, 14 April 2009 07:30 by nico
After a small break, here’s our first non-BBQ sauce review: the HP Steak Sauce, “a delicious pepper sauce” ! It comes in a glass bottle like the classic HP brown sauce but its packaging is really nice and it’s labelled as “HP Specials” on the top label.   When you take a look at the ingredients it looks like a barbecue sauce without the sweet and smokey flavor but with black pepper instead… Let’s open up: the smell is just “yummm”, with flavours of vinegar, pepper and tomatoes. But damn, it’s hard to get out from the bottle because it’s really thick and sticky ! Let’s taste it… it’s between brown sauce and barbecue sauce but with a really good pepper kick ! Great We haven’t tested it with a steak (with potatoes and peas like suggested on the label) but we’ll do it real soon. If you prefer creamy pepper sauce, just forget this one, other ones, try it straight away Oh, and the refurbished HP logo is really cool ! Quantity per bottle: 255g Price: 3.80€ Found in GB Express supermarket in Midi Station, Brussels Ingredients: Spirit Vinegar, Concentrated Tomato Puree (24%), Glucose - Fructose Syrup, Sugar, Molasses, Modified Cornflour, Salt, Flavourings, Black Pepper, Garlic Powder, Colour - Plain Caramel, Onion Powder, Citric Acid, Cayenne Pepper No artificial colours No artifical preservatives Low fat Suitable for vegetarians   Nutrition information per 100g: Energy: 156 kcal Protein: 0.9g Carbohydrates (of which sugars): 36.8g (31.4g) Fat (of which saturates): Trace (Trace) Fibre: 0.9g Sodium: 1.1g Salt equivalent: 2.8g
